In Formula Student electric racing, the reliability of the cooling system determines the car’s competitive edge. This year’s DRe25 once again features three ebm-papst compact axial fans, mounted at the rear of the car, working with three independent series water circuits for the front wheel motor, rear wheel motor, and inverter to dissipate heat. Based on real-world data from multiple DRe25 tests, motor temperatures have been consistently kept below 55°C, and inverter temperatures below 50°C, with overall cooling performance meeting design expectations and performing well.
While ensuring cooling performance, we optimized fan selection this year by adopting a lower-power model, effectively reducing total system energy consumption. Moreover, thanks to the PWM speed control function, the ebm-papst compact axial fans can dynamically adjust fan power based on real-time temperatures of the motors and controllers, thereby lowering low-voltage battery power consumption and achieving more precise cooling water temperature control.
Leveraging this advantage, the race car not only achieves more accurate water temperature management but also excels in energy efficiency, providing a reliable foundation for the performance upgrade of the next-generation car.
Looking back, the partnership between ebm-papst and DIAN Racing has spanned a full decade.
