DIAN Racing, the Formula Student team of Tongji University, was founded in March 2013. Based at the School of Automotive Studies and the New Energy Vehicle Engineering Center of Tongji University, the team independently designs, manufactures, tests, and tunes a race car each year to compete in the Formula SAE series.

At the recently concluded 2016 Formula Student China (FSC), the 20-person DIAN Racing team gave their all, competing alongside university teams from across China and the German FSG champion team KA-RaceIng at the Shanghai Audi International Circuit. With united effort, the team achieved first place in Best Powertrain, second in Efficiency Test, third in Racing Car Design, third in Endurance Performance, third in the TopSpeed Racing Engineer Award, and an overall third-place finish domestically.

Alubi’s LPMS attitude sensors are lightweight and precise, perfectly meeting the demanding requirements of a race car. For this reason, DIAN Racing proactively reached out to Alubi to pursue in-depth collaboration on LPMS gyroscopes (attitude sensors), aiming to upgrade car details, read parameters more accurately, and further improve competition results.

In the 2017 Formula SAE series, Alubi sponsored DIAN Racing’s DRe17 with the LPMS-RS232AL2 sensor and the LPMS-ME1 sensor. These were primarily used to measure the wheel-edge acceleration of all four wheels, enabling precise dynamic control.

During the team’s early-stage host computer testing and subsequent test runs, a series of calculations proved that Alubi’s gyroscope offered a short transmission cycle and high data accuracy. Throughout the 2017 season, DIAN Racing continuously used Alubi’s gyroscopes to monitor acceleration, angular velocity, and other data on three axes, using them as real-time feedback on vehicle dynamics. This played a significant role in the car’s dynamic algorithms, particularly in four-wheel torque distribution. Ultimately, DIAN Racing achieved excellent dynamic results at the Xiangyang Formula competition, securing first place in both acceleration runs.
