Title: Speed and Lasers: BLT Supports DIAN Racing in Formula Student Car Modification
In 2021, BLT collaborated with DIAN Racing on a project to produce metal 3D printed parts for a Formula Student car, in preparation for the Formula Student Electric China (FSEC) competition.
DIAN Racing previously won the 2020 FSEC championship, but the team’s constant pursuit has always been higher car quality and faster speed. The team’s attitude of “striving for excellence” aligns perfectly with BLT’s corporate culture.

Water-cooling housing
Lightweight parts can effectively reduce the car’s mass, contributing significantly to speed improvement. Considering the time, cost, and customization challenges involved in modifying the race car, after multiple site visits and discussions, BLT decided to help DIAN Racing meet its parts modification needs for that season’s competition, helping to build their “dream car”.
BLT selected high-strength aluminum alloy and aluminum alloy to print the modified car parts. These two materials reduce weight while ensuring part strength. One application of metal additive manufacturing technology in the automotive field is the simultaneous production of multiple personalized parts on a single build plate, which not only meets custom requirements but also greatly reduces production costs. Due to the large number of parts for this car modification project, BLT utilized three equipment models—BLT-S300, BLT-S320, and BLT-S400—to print the parts.

Upright
Structural optimization is another key application of metal additive manufacturing technology in the automotive field. Structural optimization enables complex part designs; through structurally optimized design, the modified car parts experienced a significant weight reduction. On the basis of ensuring stable performance improvement, components and assemblies are designed with energy efficiency in mind to meet the car’s lightweight design goals. No molds are required during R&D and trial production, effectively shortening the development cycle.
The brackets, water-cooling motor housing, front and rear rockers, front and rear uprights, and other parts for DIAN Racing’s competition car were all printed by BLT. The printed parts had all been fully assembled by September 2021, with the first test run completed on September 20. To date, DIAN Racing has conducted over twenty test runs cumulatively, and the parts remain in good condition.
